The Joan S. Roth Caregiver Training Lab was established in 2005 by the Roth family who found themselves as caregivers for their mother, Joan. The lab has since become a place for Cypress employees to be trained but also a valuable resource for the community. Family caregivers are invited to use the lab, free of charge, to help better prepare themselves for the caregiving journey ahead of them.
The Cypress orientation and family caregiver training was developed from a combination of the Foundations of Caregiving curricula, American Red Cross materials, and additional educational and training resources. Client specific training and ongoing education is available on a more individualized basis. In addition to written coursework and role-playing activities, we use a 167-pound human model so caregivers receive hands-on experience.
We dedicate the Cypress HomeCare Solutions training lab to Joan S. Roth: wife, mother, friend, confidant and guardian angel. For the last 18 years of her life, after she suffered cardiac trauma and was put in to a medically induced coma, Joan’s husband and sons took turns keeping her company at home. Her need for attentive care fueled the brothers’ passion to start Cypress, so they could care for people in the community the same way they cared for their mother.
From Managing Partner Bob Roth, “My Mother was always a beacon of light. She was the center of all activity in the family and community.” We strive to honor her memory in everything we do. She inspired our mantra, “Compassionate Care in Your Home.” She and all of the families we serve continue to inspire us every day.
