Rethinking Home Care with Invisible Tech
At Cypress HomeCare Solutions, we know that great care doesn’t stop when the caregiver leaves the home. That’s why we were excited to welcome Nat Findlay, founder and CEO of Lifeguard Health, to the show.
Lifeguard Health is on a mission to bring safety, insight, and peace of mind to families and care providers, using just four small, Wi-Fi-connected devices that monitor activity patterns without cameras, wearables, or microphones.
“It’s like a lifeguard in the tower,” Findlay explained. “We’re watching the waves, not listening or looking in, we just want to know if something’s off.”
A Personal Story Behind the Innovation
For Findlay, this isn’t just about tech, it’s about family. When his mother, a Canadian snowbird, started showing signs of decline during a winter in Arizona, he realized just how easy it was to miss the warning signs. That experience inspired him to create a better way to keep loved ones safe between visits or caregiving shifts.
Lifeguard Health was born from that mission and from Findlay’s years of experience designing healthcare systems around the world.
How It Works
Using ambient Wi-Fi signals, Lifeguard’s discreet plug-in sensors track movement, bathroom use, sleep, and more, building a baseline and using AI to detect concerning changes. A live, 24/7 Lifeguard Alert Center monitors for deviations and contacts the care circle if needed. The system is simple to install and completely invisible to the resident.
From detecting potential falls to noticing when someone stops showering or waking on time, the technology delivers real-time insights that help caregivers act before a crisis occurs.
“There’s no camera, no microphone, just the ability to know when something’s not right,” Findlay said. “If we can catch a change in behavior early, we can prevent a lot of hospital visits and emergencies.”
Empowering Home Care with Data
Lifeguard doesn’t just protect, it empowers. The system provides reports to care managers and families, helping them understand patterns and make informed decisions.
“We know what should have happened in the home—and what shouldn’t have,” Findlay said. “That kind of data gives families peace of mind and helps caregivers intervene before things get worse.”
For home care agencies like Cypress, it’s a powerful tool that extends care beyond scheduled visits and helps us ensure our clients get the right support at the right time.
The Future of Virtual Home Care
Findlay sees a future where ambient, AI-enabled monitoring becomes the norm. Lifeguard is already rolling out in Canada and preparing for U.S. expansion, with interest from international partners and potential insurance payers.
He’s also exploring next-gen features like in-home drone response and two-way audio communication for added safety.
“We’re not just building tech,” said Findlay. “We’re building peace of mind, for families, caregivers, and older adults.”
