Findlay has spent decades building companies at the intersection of technology and healthcare, from connected fitness equipment and electronic medical records to remote patient monitoring. Today, he’s focused on helping seniors remain independent through passive, Wi-Fi-based monitoring that detects changes in daily routines without cameras, microphones, or wearable devices.

“We want to understand the activities of daily living of a senior invisibly,” Findlay said. “It’s just invisible Wi-Fi.”

A major theme of the discussion was how technology can enhance caregiving without replacing the human element. Rather than relying on seniors to wear devices or remember to press emergency buttons, Lifeguard’s technology analyzes movement patterns throughout the home to identify changes that may signal a fall, illness, or other concern.

Bob Roth emphasized that technology should strengthen care, not substitute for caregivers.

“It doesn’t replace caregivers,” Roth said. “It makes caregivers better.”

The conversation also explored the growing role of artificial intelligence in home care. Findlay believes AI can help organizations recognize patterns, reduce hospitalizations, and provide families with greater peace of mind, while Roth stressed that technology must remain a tool that supports compassionate care.

“Two empathetic souls connecting—that’s Lifeguard,” Findlay said. “That’ll always be Lifeguard in my mind.”

The pair discussed the challenges facing home care providers as demand continues to grow alongside workforce shortages and rising costs. Roth noted that innovative technologies can help agencies extend care beyond scheduled caregiver visits while giving families confidence that someone is always looking out for their loved one.

“Consumers just don’t have the discretionary dollars anymore,” Roth said. “Their loved ones don’t want to leave the home. They want to stay independent.”

Looking ahead, Findlay shared his vision for expanding ambient monitoring through Medicare Advantage partnerships, state programs, and emerging AI capabilities that could eventually measure gait, respiration, and other health indicators using existing Wi-Fi signals throughout the home.

“I think we’re just on the cusp of something very large here,” he said.

Beyond technology, the episode offered an inside look at Findlay’s entrepreneurial journey, including lessons learned from business failures, the importance of building lasting relationships, and why curiosity has driven every stage of his career.

“I really like to build relationships as opposed to transactions,” Findlay said.

During a rapid-fire segment, Findlay also reflected on his favorite innovations, the entrepreneurs who inspire him, and the legacy he hopes to leave: helping more people live healthier, safer lives while remaining in the homes they love.
