There are good and bad things about growing older. You can retire, your family grows (of course, it is harder to remember birthdays for all your grandchildren), and let’s not forget about those senior discounts!
Of course, there is also the fact that your body becomes more frail, and you sometimes don’t remember as clearly as you once did, and some of the simplest tasks become a challenge for you.
But the one thing that remains constant as you get older is the person “you are” on the inside. Your sense of humor, creativity, and your zest for life all stay with you.
Unfortunately, when the aging continuum has required you to need respite care, homecare, or even the eventual move in to an independent living community or assisted living community, life can seem pretty hard and certainly not fair sometimes.
The trick is to take the time to break out and express how you feel inside. Singing, painting, dancing, laughing — are all a part of us and we should be encouraged to express these feelings and skill sets so that we can make our days more productive and certainly worth living for. Be creative.
