Where Mission Meets Innovation
At Cypress HomeCare Solutions, we understand that supporting older adults, especially those with dementia, requires both heart and innovation. That’s why we were thrilled to welcome Andrew Dubler of Home to Stay Senior Care Solutions and Gary Skole, CEO of AlzBetter, to the show. What started as a personal search for purpose led Dubler into the world of caregiving, where he and Skole have spent over a decade improving outcomes for families navigating cognitive decline.
A Tough Case That Changed Everything
Skole’s turning point came early, when a sweet older woman with dementia cycled through a dozen caregivers in just one week. That experience exposed a hard truth: most home care agencies weren’t equipped to support this complex population.
“Everyone says they’re a dementia expert,” Skole said. “But most just do a quick training video and call it a day.”
That failure became the catalyst for AlzBetter, a dementia care platform that blends caregiver training, family education, and now, artificial intelligence, to deliver better outcomes and fewer hospitalizations.
Beyond Training: Empowering Families
One of AlzBetter’s biggest innovations? Bringing families into the care plan.
“If we’re only supporting the 40 hours a week we’re there, what about the other 128?” Skole asked.
From short, targeted video lessons to app-based coaching tools, AlzBetter equips both caregivers and family members with real-time solutions for dementia-related challenges, like aggression, confusion, and wandering.
Dubler added that educating families is just as critical as training staff: “That’s what really helps drive successful outcomes.”
Supporting the Front Lines with AI
The team is also using AI in powerful new ways. Their “Abby” AI coach gives instant guidance to both staff and family members, especially during off-hours when crises tend to occur. They’re even piloting avatars that can engage clients in calming conversations and help defuse tense situations.
“It’s not about replacing people,” Skole explained. “It’s about giving them the right tools so they can succeed.”
Aging in Place, Smarter
As the aging population grows and dementia diagnoses rise, Dubler and Skole see a future where technology enhances, rather than replaces, human care.
Dubler noted that even low-tech approaches, like assigning a dementia coach to bridge families and caregivers, can be transformative. “Few agencies are even doing that—and it makes a big difference,” he said.
